Drawing inspiration from traditional handcraftsmanship, these watches are designed to embody the beauty, strength and perseverance of the katana sword. The collection is available in three colorways, including two distinct but equally unique dial designs. The black dial of the SBGA489 showcases the hardness of “Kawagane,” a high-carbon steel used to make samurai swords. The SBGA491’s dark green dial, meanwhile, represents “Shingane,” a high-iron steel often used to make the core of katana blades. Both models are non-limited editions and feature sand-textured dials.
The SBGA493 features a fiery red dial that pays homage to the forging process of the katana sword. Its dial features a radial pattern that simulates the sparks and movement of a hammer striking its blade.
All three watches are powered by the Spring Drive Caliber 9R65, Grand Seiko’s in-house automatic movement with a 72-hour power reserve.
